The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Rabiu Shuaibu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election in Kano State. Shuaibu secured a decisive victory with 35,356 votes, far outpacing his competitors in the election held on June 20.
Official Results Announced
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Umar Sani, announced the results on Saturday following the conclusion of the poll. According to the official figures released by INEC, Shuaibu's closest rival, Lawal Garba Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), managed only 268 votes, while Abubakar Yahya Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP) garnered 98 votes. The margin of victory underscores the APC's strong hold on the constituency.
Returning Officer's Declaration
Declaring the result, Prof. Sani stated that Shuaibu had met all constitutional and legal requirements to be returned elected. “That Rabiu Shuaibu of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” the returning officer said. The declaration was made after the collation of votes from across the constituency.
By-Election Context and Oversight
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat representing the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Voters turned out across the area to elect their new representative. The exercise was monitored by INEC officials, security personnel, and election observers, ensuring a smooth process from voting to the final announcement of results on Saturday.
Implications for APC
The outcome means the APC has successfully retained the federal constituency seat, reinforcing its political influence in Kano State. Shuaibu's victory is expected to bolster the party's representation in the National Assembly, as he prepares to take on legislative duties for the constituency.
