Atiku Officially Joins ADC with 4 Key Allies, Launches 2027 Opposition Bid
Atiku joins ADC with Nyako, 4 other opposition figures

In a significant political realignment ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a new chapter in the country's opposition politics.

Official Registration in Home Territory

On Monday, November 24, 2025, the serial presidential candidate formally registered as a member of the ADC at Jada Ward 1 in Jada local government area of Adamawa state. The registration ceremony was conducted by Senator Sadiq Yar'Adua, the national secretary of the ADC registration and mobilisation committee.

Speaking after receiving his membership card, Atiku declared: "Now I have picked my membership card of the ADC. Now, the real opposition has begun. We will work in concert with other leaders of the opposition and Nigerians to chase the APC out of government."

Political Heavyweights Align with Atiku

The event attracted several prominent opposition figures who have aligned with Atiku's political movement. Among those present were:

  • Bindow Jibrilla, former Adamawa state governor
  • Senator Aziz Nyako
  • Senator Aishatu Binani
  • Senator Ahmed Hassan Barata
  • Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo

This gathering of political heavyweights signals a consolidation of opposition forces ahead of the crucial 2027 polls.

ADC Leadership Welcomes New Member

ADC chairman Shehu Yohanna, who joined Senator Yar'Adua in performing the registration, stated that Atiku's registration marks the beginning of statewide membership registration in all local governments and wards of Adamawa state.

Yohanna urged citizens, particularly youths and women across Nigeria, to join the party, while Senator Yar'Adua echoed the call for Nigerians to ensure they register to vote in the upcoming elections.

The move comes months after Atiku's July resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had been grappling with prolonged internal crises. His departure from the PDP, where he had been a prominent chieftain, represents one of the most significant political defections in the current democratic era.

Atiku's call to his supporters and other Nigerians to register with the ADC indicates his intention to build the party into a formidable platform for the 2027 presidential contest, where he is expected to make another bid for the nation's highest office.
