Bauchi APC Aspirant Manu Rejects Consensus Talks Ahead of 2027
Bauchi APC Aspirant Manu Rejects Consensus Talks

Dr. Nura Manu Soro, a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, has publicly distanced himself from ongoing discussions regarding a potential consensus arrangement among aspirants ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Manu stated that he is not aware of any agreement to adopt a consensus candidate and emphasized that he remains fully committed to contesting for the party's ticket.

The aspirant made his position known shortly after appearing before the APC screening committee, where he described the session as interactive and engaging. He noted, "The committee engagement has been interactive, and we interacted well. They asked many questions, and we provided answers to the best of our ability."

Addressing speculations about consensus talks within the party, Manu declared that he has no intention of stepping down for any other aspirant. "I am not aware of any consensus in Bauchi. I have been preparing for elections. I have no intention of stepping down for anybody, so I am not aware of that," he stated firmly.

His statement comes amid growing conversations within the APC about the possibility of adopting a consensus governorship candidate before the party primaries in Bauchi State. Proponents of the arrangement argue that consensus could minimize internal divisions and strengthen the opposition party ahead of the 2027 election against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, several aspirants and party loyalists continue to insist on an open and transparent primary process to determine the party's candidate.

Manu also took the opportunity to clarify the purpose of his proposed N100 billion intervention fund, refuting speculation that it was intended for security operations. He explained that the initiative is designed to support the commercialization of agriculture and small-scale enterprises as part of his broader development agenda for the state. "The N100 billion I am talking about is not for security. It is a fund I plan to bring to the state to support agricultural commercialization and small-scale enterprises. It is part of my three-point agenda," he elaborated.

The Bauchi APC governorship race is expected to be highly competitive ahead of the 2027 elections, with several prominent politicians already positioning themselves for the party's ticket. Manu's rejection of consensus underscores the growing tension among aspirants as they vie for the nomination.
