The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced the verification and issuance of nomination and Expression of Interest Forms to aspirants contesting for state house of assembly elections.
The exercise, which began today at the party’s state secretariat in Makurdi, marks the formal start of preparations for the party’s forthcoming primaries.
Declaring the session open, the state chairman of the party, Dr. Benjamin Omale, urged all aspirants to conduct themselves responsibly and in accordance with the party’s constitution and established guidelines. Dr. Omale assured the aspirants of a transparent process and a level playing field for all candidates.
Earlier, the state organising secretary and chairman of Organising Secretaries in Nigeria, James Ornguga, briefed the aspirants on the requirements for obtaining the forms. Ornguga stated that all payments must be made into the account of the national secretariat of the party, and aspirants are also required to clear four years of party dues and settle other financial obligations to the party at the state level.
The secretariat was a beehive of activities as party loyalists accompanying their preferred candidates thronged in throughout the day.
Verification Process Underway
The verification process is designed to ensure that all aspirants meet the necessary criteria before they can obtain the nomination forms. Party officials are cross-checking membership records and financial contributions to confirm eligibility.
Aspirants Express Optimism
Many aspirants expressed optimism about the process, praising the party leadership for its commitment to fairness. Some noted that the transparent approach would strengthen internal democracy and unity within the party.
