Political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections in Taraba state gained momentum on Wednesday as a frontline governorship aspirant, Aboki Stephen Bayonga, formally declared his intention to contest for the number one seat in the state under the platform of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA).
Bayonga made his intention known during an exclusive telephone interview with The Guardian, where he expressed confidence in the capacity of the party to emerge victorious in the forthcoming elections scheduled for 2027.
According to him, the Democratic Leadership Alliance possesses the political structure, grassroots appeal, and leadership vision needed to provide quality governance and reposition Taraba state for accelerated development.
The governorship hopeful maintained that the people of the state were yearning for purposeful leadership, transparency, and inclusive governance, adding that the DLA was prepared to offer a credible alternative capable of addressing the challenges confronting the state.
He noted that the party’s focus would be centered on economic growth, infrastructural development, youth empowerment, agriculture, education, healthcare delivery, and improved welfare for citizens across the state.
Bayonga further appealed to the people of Taraba state, particularly eligible voters, women, and youths, to throw their weight behind the Democratic Leadership Alliance in order to enable the party form the next government in 2027.
“We are determined to build a government that will prioritize the welfare of the people and ensure that every part of the state benefits from democratic dividends,” he stated.
Supporting Bayonga’s position, the Taraba state Chairman of the party, Aliyuda Yakubu Balutu, assured residents that the party would operate an open-door policy if given the mandate to govern the state.
Balutu said the DLA remained committed to transparency, accountability, and participatory governance, stressing that the party would create opportunities for all citizens to contribute meaningfully to governance and development.
He urged the people of the state to support candidates who would eventually emerge as flagbearers of the party during its primaries, from the State House of Assembly to the governorship position.
According to him, unity, collective support, and commitment from party members and the electorate would be critical to the success of the DLA in the 2027 elections.
The party chairman further expressed optimism that the Democratic Leadership Alliance would continue to gain acceptance among the electorate as political activities intensify ahead of the next general elections.
Political observers believe the declaration by Bayonga and the growing activities within the DLA may further reshape the political landscape of Taraba state as parties begin early mobilization and strategic alignments ahead of 2027.
