Ovie Omo-Agege, the former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, has officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following his defeat in the party's senatorial primary in Delta State. He has now joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Defection Over Primary Loss
The former senator will contest the Delta Central senatorial ticket under the NDC banner on Friday, May 28. His decision to leave the APC came after losing the party's senatorial ticket to Senator Ede Dafinone, who enjoyed the backing of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Political Shift in Delta
This move marks a significant shift in Delta State's political landscape. Omo-Agege, who previously served as Deputy Senate President, brings considerable experience to his new party. The NDC is expected to benefit from his political network and influence in the region.
Observers note that the defection could alter the dynamics of the upcoming senatorial election in Delta Central. Omo-Agege's supporters have expressed confidence in his ability to secure the NDC ticket and win the general election.
As the political realignment continues, all eyes are on the NDC's primary scheduled for Friday. The outcome will determine whether Omo-Agege will face his former party's candidate in the main election.
