Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries scheduled for Thursday, citing the need for peace and unity in the state. In a personally signed statement released on Wednesday night, Fubara explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends, and associates.
Decision for Peace and Unity
Fubara stated, "After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries." He emphasized that leadership requires sacrifice, adding that personal ambition must yield to the greater good of Rivers State. "Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest," he said.
Support for Party Candidate
The governor pledged to support whoever emerges as the party's candidate, noting that his withdrawal was not a sign of weakness. "Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity," he affirmed.
Fubara acknowledged the disappointment his followers might feel but hinted at the immense pressures and difficult choices he faced. He thanked the APC leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their encouragement throughout the process.
