Ganduje's Son Quits APC, Joins Kwankwaso's NDC

Abdulaziz Ganduje, son of former Kano State Governor and immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Political Defection and Nomination

Abdulaziz, a member of the Kwankwasiyya movement loyal to former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has also obtained the NDC nomination form to contest for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado federal constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

In a viral video circulating online, Abdulaziz was seen introducing himself to Kwankwaso while declaring his intention to contest for the seat under the platform of the NDC.

Current Representation

The constituency is currently represented by Tijjani Jobe, who is seeking re-election in the 2027 polls. Jobe was elected into the House of Representatives on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) before defecting to the APC in January. He has since secured the APC ticket to contest for another term.

Political Significance

The latest political development is seen as a significant twist in Kano politics, given the long-standing political rivalry between Kwankwaso and Ganduje. Both politicians were once close allies, with Ganduje serving as deputy governor during Kwankwaso’s administration. However, their relationship later deteriorated after Ganduje succeeded Kwankwaso as governor of Kano State in 2015, leading to years of political disagreements and the emergence of rival political camps in the state.
