In a decisive victory, Osagie Ize-Iyamu on Monday secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Edo South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 National Assembly elections. The former candidate defeated his closest competitors, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and incumbent Senator Neda Imasuen, in a party primary election conducted across all 77 wards in the seven local government areas that constitute the district.
Massive Voter Turnout
Reports from correspondents indicated a substantial turnout of party members during the exercise held across the district. As early as 9:00 a.m., eligible voters were observed queuing at polling centers in Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Ovia North-East, Ovia South-West, Uhunmwonde, and Orhionmwon Local Government Areas. This widespread participation reflected the party's robust internal democratic process.
Official Results Declaration
Following the collation of results, the Chief Returning Officer, Abubakar Muhammad Kabiru, officially declared Ize-Iyamu the winner after he obtained the highest number of votes cast. Announcing the final tally, Kabiru stated that Ize-Iyamu polled 33,399 votes, while Ogbeide-Ihama garnered 12,560 votes and Imasuen received 5,107 votes.
Ize-Iyamu's Reaction
Reacting to the outcome, an elated Ize-Iyamu expressed gratitude to party supporters and pledged to provide quality representation if elected in the general election. He emphasized his commitment to the people of Edo South and promised to prioritize their interests in the Senate.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present to monitor the conduct of the primary election across the various local government areas in Edo South Senatorial District. Their presence underscored the transparency and credibility of the process.
