Federal Lawmaker Switches Allegiance to Ruling Party
In a significant political realignment, Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move comes precisely two months after his expulsion from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) over allegations of anti-party activities and failure to fulfill membership financial obligations.
Mass Defection and Public Declaration
The formal declaration occurred on Monday, November 10, in his hometown of Kofa, located in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State. Jibrin announced that his political base had reached a unanimous decision to abandon the NNPP and the associated Kwankwasiyya political movement. Instead, they have pledged their full support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's anticipated campaign for re-election in 2027.
Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano, Jibrin stated. He confirmed that the gathering collectively resolved to leave the NNPP, join the ruling APC, and endorse the President for a second term.
Spiritual Backing and Correcting Past Mistakes
The event was not just political but also spiritual, with Jibrin revealing that approximately 2,000 Islamic clerics were present. They offered special prayers for President Tinubu's success and for peace and development in Kiru/Bebeji, Kano State, and Nigeria as a whole.
In a candid address captured on video, the lawmaker explained his reason for bringing a large crowd of supporters to this defection. He stated that this was a deliberate strategy to correct a previous mistake, ensuring no one could claim he lacked a grassroots following. I decided to bring this crowd to correct my earlier mistake. I don't want anyone to say I don't have supporters, Jibrin emphasized, highlighting a shift towards a more collective and visible approach to his political movements.
This mass defection signals a strengthening of the APC's structure in Kano State ahead of the next electoral cycle and represents a major blow to the NNPP's influence in the Kiru/Bebeji constituency.
