The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has issued a stern warning to former Senator Dino Melaye, demanding he immediately ceases presenting himself as a member of their political party.
Party's Official Position
During a press briefing held in Lokoja on Friday, the party's State Public Relations Officer, Hon Tayo John, made the declaration that has sent ripples through political circles. The party executives emphasized they remain a distinct entity with no form of merger or coalition arrangement with what they described as "marauders like Melaye" attempting to hijack power through fraudulent means.
Johnson stated unequivocally: "Dino Melaye is not a member of ADC in Kogi State". He further explained that the former senator lacks recognition at his ward level as a party member, thereby having no legitimate identity within the party structure.
Grounds for Disqualification
The ADC spokesman outlined several reasons why Melaye cannot be considered a bona fide member. According to party records, Melaye has not paid any membership dues nor participated in any party activities at state, local government, or ward levels. These are fundamental prerequisites for joining the political organization.
Johnson characterized Melaye's actions as those of a social media content creator seeking attention rather than genuine political engagement. "He is an imposter whose activities don't align with ADC's values", the PRO declared, emphasizing that Melaye has no authority to speak on behalf of the party or influence its leadership composition.
Recognized Leadership and Legal Battles
The party identified Hon. Leke Abejide as their national leader, noting his consistent membership since 2018 and his electoral victory to the House of Representatives under the ADC banner. Described as a standing financial member, Abejide is recognized as both a state and national stakeholder within the party.
The ADC spokesman revealed that ongoing court cases initiated by Abejide and the Benue State Chairman of ADC will ultimately determine the party's legitimate leadership. He stressed that any attempts to suspend or expel Abejide are considered illegal under the party's constitution.
The party has called upon INEC, the Inspector General of Police, and the general public to disregard Melaye's claims, accusing him of attempting to destroy ADC similar to his alleged impact on previous political affiliations. The statement concluded with a firm warning for Melaye to desist from impersonating the party and speaking in its name.
