Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State and national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has disclosed that political leaders in northern Nigeria conducted a thorough evaluation of potential allies before settling on Peter Obi as the most viable partner for the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso Addresses Power Struggle Concerns
The former governor made this revelation while addressing concerns about an alleged power struggle between him and Obi. Speaking in an interview on Arise TV on Monday, Kwankwaso detailed how the alliance between the southeast and the north within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was formed.
He explained: "I looked around together with our leadership in the north to say, okay, who do we think is capable? Who can come and work together with us honestly so that we can move this country forward? Along the line, we realized that Peter Obi is at the forefront of it. That's why we all agreed to work together."
Background of the Alliance
Kwankwaso emphasized that the decision was not arbitrary but based on a deliberate assessment of various political figures. The northern leaders sought a partner who could genuinely collaborate to move Nigeria forward. According to him, Obi emerged as the most promising candidate, leading to the consensus to work together.
The alliance between Kwankwaso and Obi has been a subject of political speculation, with some observers questioning the stability of their partnership. However, Kwankwaso's latest comments aim to dispel doubts and reinforce the strategic nature of their collaboration.
