2027: Kwankwaso May Return to APC if Party Reforms, Says NNPP Chair
Kwankwaso May Join APC if Party Mends Ways - NNPP

The political landscape of Nigeria may witness a significant shift ahead of the 2027 general elections as the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has revealed conditions under which its leader, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, might consider reuniting with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Political Negotiations Intensify

During a press conference held at the Party Secretariat in Kano, NNPP State Chairman Hon. Hashim Dungurawa disclosed that Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 election, is open to political realignment provided the APC demonstrates genuine reform. This revelation comes amid growing speculation about Kwankwaso's political future following his recent unexpected encounter with former APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Dungurawa emphasized that as a seasoned democrat, Kwankwaso remains amenable to political discussions as the country approaches the next election cycle. However, he insisted that any potential collaboration would require substantial political negotiation and alignment of interests between the two parties.

APC's Pursuit of Kwankwaso

The NNPP chairman revealed that the APC has intensified efforts to recruit Kwankwaso, recognizing his significant political influence and grassroots support, particularly in Kano State. According to Dungurawa, the ruling party views Kwankwaso as the essential figure needed to reclaim political dominance in Kano, making him their primary target for the 2027 elections.

"The APC that we have today is a weak one, and that is the reason they are hunting for a better option ahead of the 2027 election, and that better option is Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso," Dungurawa stated during the press conference. "They know Kwankwaso is the only political giant with grassroots support that could navigate the terrain in 2027."

Clarification on Recent Meetings

Addressing speculation surrounding the recent meeting between Kwankwaso and Ganduje, as well as subsequent contact between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Ganduje, the NNPP chairman described these encounters as coincidental rather than strategic. He firmly asserted that these brief interactions should not be interpreted as indications of an impending reconciliation between the political figures.

Dungurawa maintained that while Kwankwaso remains open to renegotiation, the NNPP leadership will not succumb to undue pressure and will steadfastly uphold the party's core philosophy and principles.

The chairman also addressed the recent defection of NNPP members in the National Assembly to the APC, expressing regret over the development while predicting that the defectors would face significant challenges adapting to their new political environment.

Looking ahead, Dungurawa announced that the NNPP has reached an agreement to reelect current party leaders at all levels during its upcoming ward and local congresses scheduled for December. He issued a stern warning that any member who seeks legal action against the party regarding this decision risks immediate expulsion from the party.
