2027: Kwankwaso Considers APC Return if Party Reforms, Says NNPP Chair
Kwankwaso Open to APC Return if Party Mends Ways

Kwankwaso Sets Conditions for Potential APC Return

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has revealed that its 2023 presidential candidate, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, might consider rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, but only if the ruling party addresses its current shortcomings. This significant political development emerged during a press conference held at the NNPP secretariat in Kano State on November 21, 2025.

Political Negotiations and Conditions

NNPP Chairman Hashim Dungurawa clarified that while Kwankwaso remains open to political realignment, any move would require substantial negotiations. The ruling APC must demonstrate genuine willingness to engage in political discussions and align with NNPP's principles. Dungurawa emphasized that the opposition party would maintain its philosophical stance and resist any inappropriate pressure during such talks.

The party chairman described Kwankwaso as "a seasoned democrat who remains amenable to the 2027 political campaigns", indicating flexibility in political strategy while maintaining core values. This position comes amid increasing lobbying efforts from the APC to attract the influential politician back to their fold.

Ganduje Meetings and Defection Fallout

Recent interactions between Kwankwaso and former APC National Chairman Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje have sparked political speculation. However, Dungurawa characterized these meetings as coincidental rather than strategic. Similarly, subsequent contacts between Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Ganduje were downplayed as routine political engagements.

Addressing the recent defection of NNPP members in the National Assembly to the APC, Dungurawa expressed regret but remained confident about his party's stability. He suggested that the defectors would face greater challenges in their new political home than they anticipated, indicating that the NNPP remains a formidable political force despite these losses.

The political landscape appears to be shifting as the 2027 elections approach, with Kwankwaso's potential movement between parties representing a significant development that could reshape opposition dynamics in Nigeria.
