The Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially announced Engineer Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu as its governorship candidate for the 2027 elections. This development comes two days after the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state selected the Speaker of the State Assembly, Salihu Yakubu Danladi (SYD), as its own candidate.
At the PDP secretariat on Tuesday, the chief returning officer, Senator Duro Faseyi, declared that Kawu garnered 98,998 votes to defeat his closest rival, Ladi Hassan, who secured 2,125 votes. The governorship primary was conducted across all 193 wards in the 16 local government areas of the state.
Before the announcement, Faseyi expressed gratitude to former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki for his efforts in upholding and sustaining the PDP. He noted that Saraki has not only kept the party alive but has also contributed significantly to Nigeria's development. Faseyi also commended the other governorship aspirants for their sportsmanship, stating that their maturity would not go unnoticed. He added, "It is now certainly sure that the maturity you (aspirants) displayed will testify to the fact that 2027 is a sure victory for PDP."
Similarly, the state PDP chairman, Isa Adamu Bawa, thanked Saraki, members of the State Working Committee (SWC), and the aspirants for their contributions.
In his acceptance speech, Kawu promised to run an all-inclusive government and elevate the state to new heights.
