The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on former presidential candidate Peter Obi over his response to the life sentence given to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
APC's Strong Condemnation
In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, November 23, 2025, the party's spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, accused Obi of politicizing terrorism and desperately clinging to relevance. The APC expressed deep disappointment with Obi's characterization of Kanu's arrest, detention, and eventual sentencing as "unfortunate."
The Labour Party candidate had previously suggested that the legal process reflected leadership gaps and might increase tensions rather than reduce them. However, the Lagos APC described this position as hypocritical and politically motivated.
Questions of Inconsistency
The ruling party questioned what it called Obi's inconsistent approach to terrorism. "Why the inconsistency in his position? How does he condemn Boko Haram and their ilk wholeheartedly in one breath, only to embrace, defend, and rationalize IPOB in another?" the statement queried.
The APC emphasized that Obi has maintained silence on IPOB's violent activities while pretending to advocate for justice. The party accused him of using ethnic sentiments to justify terrorism instead of prioritizing national security concerns.
Political Motivation Alleged
According to the Lagos APC, Obi's comments represent a desperate attempt to resurrect his failed political career. The party described his statement as "a pathetic audition for 2027" and another failed effort to revive a political project beyond resuscitation.
"Obi's attempt to 'tackle' the Federal Government and reject a valid court ruling is nothing more than the cry of a man whose political career is in its last embarrassing throes," the statement declared.
The APC urged Nigerians to dismiss Obi's remarks as mere political posturing, emphasizing that national security remains non-negotiable. The party reaffirmed its support for the Federal Government's constitutional authority to handle matters of treason and terrorism with firmness.
Finally, the Lagos APC challenged Obi to drop what it called his "ethnic blinders" and be honest about his regional commitments rather than deceiving Nigerians with feigned neutrality.
