Labour Party Makes Serious Allegations Against APC
The National Leadership of the Labour Party has made explosive claims against the All Progressives Congress, accusing them of orchestrating insecurity in 2011 to undermine former President Goodluck Jonathan's administration. The allegations were made during a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat in Abeokuta on Monday.
LP Deputy National Chairman Ayo Olorunfemi stated that the APC deliberately created security challenges to facilitate their takeover from the Peoples Democratic Party. He pointed to recent security incidents across the country as evidence of continued failure in addressing the nation's safety concerns.
Recent Security Incidents Highlighted
Olorunfemi referenced two major security breaches that have shaken the nation. The first occurred on November 18, 2025, when gunmen attacked Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State during a church service. Three worshippers were killed and 38 others were abducted during the violent incident.
The second incident involved the kidnapping of over 300 children from a Catholic school in Niger State. While 51 of these children and the 38 worshippers from Kwara State were eventually rescued, Olorunfemi lamented the growing pattern of insecurity across the country.
Government Failure on Security and Economy
The Labour Party official strongly criticized the Tinubu-led administration for its handling of security matters. He expressed concern that despite numerous kidnapping incidents and security breaches, no single kidnapper or bandit has been arrested by security forces.
Olorunfemi also addressed the economic challenges facing Nigerians, highlighting the skyrocketing inflation affecting food prices, services, and general living conditions. He emphasized that the current level of hopelessness has reached unimaginable proportions in the country.
"One of the most important functions of government is to protect lives and properties, but today, properties are not protected and lives are at risk," Olorunfemi stated. He noted that citizens can no longer travel safely by road or worship peacefully in their religious centers.
Historical Context and Allegations
The Labour Party leader made startling claims about the origins of the current security crisis. "We all know how APC came together and brought bandits from Syria during Jonathan's time to fight in Nigeria," he alleged.
He contrasted this approach with former President Jonathan's stance during the 2015 elections, noting that Jonathan had stated that his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians and consequently conceded victory.
Peter Obi and Anti-Party Activities
In a significant development, the Labour Party also addressed the political activities of its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi. The party accused Obi of engaging in anti-party activities through his alignment with the leadership of the African Democratic Congress.
Olorunfemi made it clear that the Labour Party would not form any alliance with ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stated that as long as Obi continues his political activities with ADC, he will not be regarded as a member of the Labour Party.
"As long as Peter Obi is doing anything with ADC, we won't regard him as a member of the party. So he is not a Labour member if he aligned with ADC, and we will regard such as anti-party," Olorunfemi emphasized.
Path to Reconciliation and Future Plans
The Deputy National Chairman did leave the door open for reconciliation, stating that politicians who have engaged in anti-party activities could be reinstated under certain conditions. However, he made it clear that the party has moved on and is focused on pursuing electoral victory in 2027.
"For those who believe that admitting them into the party to run as candidates means they become the owners of the party, when they wake up from their dreams, maybe they will do the right thing by returning to the house, apologizing, and their requests will be considered," he stated.
Olorunfemi concluded by asserting that only the Labour Party can rescue Nigerians from the current economic hardship and security challenges facing the nation.
