Mixed Reactions as Natasha Says She Wouldn't Run Without Husband's Consent
Natasha's Husband Consent Comment Sparks Mixed Reactions

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has sparked a wave of mixed reactions after stating that she would not have sought re-election in 2027 if her husband had not agreed. The senator shared photos of herself and her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri Kingdom, holding the primary election nomination form.

Natasha's Tribute to Her Husband

In her caption, Natasha wrote: "My beloved husband, if you had said no, I would not have taken this step towards the 2027 Kogi Central Senatorial elections. But you did not. Instead, you looked into my heart, understood the depth of my purpose in consideration of our peoples’ calling and chose to stand firmly beside me."

She continued: "By taking it upon yourself, out of your deep and unwavering belief in me, to purchase my 2027 senatorial nomination form, you did far more than support a political ambition. You affirmed a shared vision. You declared, without hesitation, that you are ready to walk this journey with me…through the campaigns, through the elections, and all the way to victory for our people."

Her post generated a wide range of responses. Some questioned why she would condition her candidacy on her husband's approval, asking how many men would say the same about their wives. Others defended her, arguing that marriage is a partnership and that seeking a spouse's support for such a major decision is natural.

Businesswoman Roberta Edu criticized Natasha, writing: "This is where Natasha and I draw the line. You are a woman Senator, representing a people, and in your quest to return to the Senate, you are telling me that if your husband hadn’t told you to run again, you would not have. That means you do not have the vision—your husband does."

Roberta added: "What kind of pick-me card are you trying to play, squashing your vision and telling us you are only running because your spouse commanded it? This cannot be the Natasha I have been fighting Akpabio for."

Support for Natasha

However, Roberta's comment drew backlash from many who stood by Natasha. Supporters argued that a spouse's support is crucial in politics and that Natasha's statement was a sign of a healthy partnership. They emphasized that marriage involves mutual respect and consultation, especially for life-changing decisions like running for office.

Natasha's post concluded with a promise of love and respect to her husband, reaffirming their shared commitment to serving the people of Kogi Central.
