The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially granted electoral waivers to former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei. This decision clears the way for their senatorial ambitions as the 2027 general elections approach.
Strategic Consolidation in Delta
Under the party's directive, Omo-Agege will contest the Delta Central Senatorial seat, while Ochei has been cleared for the Delta North district. This move represents a strategic consolidation by the NDC in Delta State, following the recent defection of both politicians from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recognition of Political Experience
In its official announcement, the NDC explained that the waivers were granted in recognition of both men's extensive political experience, organizational strength, and long-standing involvement in governance and legislative affairs. The party described their entry as a major boost to its structure, expressing confidence that they will enhance electoral competitiveness and deepen grassroots mobilization across the state.
Commitment to Inclusion and Democracy
The NDC further stated that the decision reflects its commitment to inclusion and internal democracy. By welcoming experienced political actors like Omo-Agege and Ochei, the party positions itself as a broad-based platform open to those seeking elective office. Party leaders expressed optimism that both aspirants would deliver credible and effective representation if elected, aligning with the party's broader goal of reshaping governance outcomes in Delta State.
The statement was signed by Osa Director Esq., National Publicity Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
