The entire workforce in Ekiti State, under the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and secondary school teachers, represented by the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), have adopted Governor Biodun Oyebanji as their preferred candidate for the June 20 governorship election. The decision was based on improved workers' welfare and general conditions of service under Oyebanji's nearly four-year administration.
Unions Pledge Support
The unions promised to mobilize their families, colleagues, friends, dependents, fellow worshippers, neighbors, and communities to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate. State NLC Chairman Kolapo Olatunde stated that all 35 affiliate unions resolved to support Oyebanji, believing workers' welfare would be consolidated in his second term.
Benefits Under Oyebanji
Olatunde highlighted that Oyebanji employed more workers, provided regular salary payments, pensions, gratuities, arrears, leave bonuses, buses for unions, and free bus services. ASUSS Chairman Olusola Adigun, also national president, said Oyebanji fulfilled all promises, prompting the union to create the BAO Grassroots Coordinators to galvanize support. Adigun noted that secondary school teachers consider Oyebanji the most responsive and teacher-friendly leader in the state's history.
Governor's Response
Oyebanji appreciated the support, attributing the lack of industrial action under his watch to his good relationship with workers, listening to them, prioritizing welfare, and improving living standards. He pledged continued improvement.
Campaign Council's Call
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, chairman of the Oyebanji Re-election Campaign Council, also sought NLC and ASUSS support, promising better welfare packages.
