The internal crisis rocking the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) in Kano State has taken a dramatic turn with the expulsion of its state chairman, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa. The party's ward executives in Gargari, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, took the decisive action on Monday evening, citing allegations of fuelling division and disrespecting the state governor.
The Charges and Expulsion Resolution
Hashim Dungurawa, a known ally of the party's national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was removed following a resolution endorsed by 27 executive members of the NNPP in his home ward. The expulsion letter, signed by the ward chairman, Shuaibu Hassan, and secretary, Yahaya Saidu Dungurawa, outlined several offences.
The charges against Dungurawa include creating divisions within the party, instigating internal crises, failure to pay party dues, and making abusive remarks against the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf. The ward leadership described his conduct as unacceptable and detrimental to the party's image, unity, and progress.
Root of the Conflict: Governor's Planned Defection
The expulsion is directly linked to Dungurawa's public opposition to the anticipated defection of Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Dungurawa had openly kicked against the move, calling it "a strong act of betrayal" and urging party stakeholders not to endorse the political realignment.
He further distanced the NNPP from the governor's intention, claiming that the party's national leader, Dr. Kwankwaso, did not support Governor Yusuf's "new romance with the ruling party." This position put him at odds with other party elements who may be aligning with the governor's political calculations.
Party Discipline and Forwarded Resolutions
Ward Chairman Shuaibu Hassan stated that the expulsion action was taken in strict compliance with the NNPP's constitution to uphold discipline and internal cohesion. He emphasized that the sack should serve as a deterrent to anyone who misuses a party position or assumes they are above its rules.
Copies of the expulsion resolution have been forwarded to the party's local government, state, and national headquarters for necessary action. Notably, the resolution was also served to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for their information and further directives.
In a final declaration, Hassan reaffirmed the ward's total loyalty to the NNPP national leadership under Senator Kwankwaso and pledged continued support to Governor Yusuf. This move deepens the visible crack within the party's structure in its key stronghold, setting the stage for further political realignments in Kano State.
