Ogunmola Joins APC, Lauds Tinubu's Economic Policies

In a significant political development in Ondo State, philanthropist and oil and gas expert, Victor Ogunmola, has officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The event took place at Ward One in Itaogbolu, located within the Akure North Local Government Area, over the weekend of December 14-15, 2024.

Endorsement of Federal Economic Policies

During his reception into the party, Ogunmola strongly endorsed the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu's administration. He stated that the federal government's decisions, though initially contentious, are building a robust foundation for the nation's future.

Ogunmola specifically highlighted the removal of the fuel subsidy and the ongoing tax reforms as critical measures that are positioning Nigeria for long-term prosperity. He argued that these policies have directly increased financial allocations to state governments.

"The only reason why you could see the state government doing some capital projects is just because they have more allocation from the federal," Ogunmola said. He praised the quality of federal infrastructure projects, particularly road construction, and noted the positive ripple effects at the state level.

Local Impact and Governance

Ogunmola pointed to tangible improvements in his own community as evidence of the reforms' success. He mentioned the revival of pipe-borne water projects in Ondo State, something he had not seen in public supply for over four decades.

He also commended the transformative agenda being led by the executive chairman of his local government, which he said is bringing governance closer to the people. "What I’m bringing to the table is that I want to be part of the solution," Ogunmola declared, emphasizing that effective governance requires superior ideas.

A Move Inspired by Renewed Hope

Ogunmola clarified that his decision to enter politics was not driven by financial gain or personal ambition. Instead, he was motivated by President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and a desire to contribute to his community's development.

"I have chosen to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC), not merely as a political step, but as a purposeful embrace of a platform that empowers Nigerians, professionals, youth, women, and community leaders alike," he stated.

The ward chairman, Sunday Opokiti, expressed delight at Ogunmola's defection, describing him as a responsible man whose community interventions are well-known. "Our party is all about the progress and welfare of the people. He loves his community... We welcome him with joy," Opokiti said.

Ondo State APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, who presided over the ceremony, highlighted the value Ogunmola brings. He cited Ogunmola's professional background with ExxonMobil and his philanthropic record in Itaogbolu as major assets for the party. The large turnout of eminent personalities from the local government to receive him was cited as proof of his stature and value.
