The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, labeling him a perpetual agent provocateur driven by selfish political motives.
PDP's Formal Condemnation and Accusations
In a strongly-worded statement issued on Monday, 29 December 2025, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party condemned Wike's recent media chat. The PDP accused him of gross anti-party activities, stating that his public declaration of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the assumed APC candidate for the 2027 presidential election confirmed long-standing suspicions.
The party framed this as a direct violation of party discipline and democratic norms. "He has been a constant agent provocateur in the political space, creating trouble to mask his selfish intentions," the PDP's statement read.
A History of Internal Disruption
The PDP detailed Wike's extensive history of involvement in the party's internal crises, painting a picture of consistent disruption:
- His prominent role during the Ali Modu Sheriff chairmanship crisis.
- His initial support for, and later opposition to, former national chairman Uche Secondus.
- His backing of Iyorchia Ayu's emergence as chairman, followed by leading a campaign for his removal.
The party argued these were not acts of principled disagreement but a calculated pattern of using conflict as a tool to advance narrow personal interests.
From Rivers State to the Federal Level
The accusation extended to Wike's tenure as Governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023. The PDP accused him of fostering division through candidate imposition, exclusionary practices, and the controversial restriction of PDP presidential campaign activities in the state during the 2023 general elections.
The statement made it clear that Wike's recent alignments show he and associates like Sam Anyanwu have chosen to openly support the APC. "Now that the mask of his pretence is off... Nigerians are now clearly aware of their disposition to destroy the PDP as part of their bargain to support the President," the PDP asserted.
Rebuilding for 2027 and Legal Warnings
The PDP indicated that Wike's expulsion marked a decisive step in rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 elections. It reaffirmed its commitment to presenting a credible presidential candidate with broad national appeal.
In a pointed message to Wike, a lawyer by profession, the party warned: "We remind Wike that as a lawyer, he knows that agreements made to achieve an illegal purpose are not enforceable and should not be encouraged."
The party concluded by stating that its Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee is intensifying efforts to resolve legal disputes, strengthen internal structures, and prepare for upcoming electoral contests.
