PDP Dissolves State Executives in 14 States, Including Lagos, Delta, Kano
PDP Caretaker Committee Dissolves 14 State Excos

In a major move to consolidate its structure, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken decisive action by dissolving its executive committees in fourteen states across Nigeria.

Widespread Dissolution and Leadership Affirmation

The National Working Caretaker Committee of the PDP announced the dissolution following a crucial meeting held on Wednesday, December 18, 2025, in Abuja. The committee, led by Acting Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, declared the party "strong, united and indivisible" under a single, legitimate leadership.

The affected states where the party's state working committees have been dissolved are:

  • Lagos
  • Delta
  • Kano
  • Borno
  • Bauchi
  • Oyo
  • Zamfara
  • Yobe
  • Ekiti
  • Bayelsa
  • Enugu
  • Ebonyi
  • Anambra
  • Taraba

The committee has confirmed the formation of new caretaker committees to manage party affairs in these states until fresh elections are held.

Dismissing Parallel Claims and Setting the Record Straight

The PDP leadership strongly dismissed circulating reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had recognized parallel executives loyal to Tanimu Turaki. The committee labeled such executives as "illegal" and challenged Turaki to provide evidence, specifically "the code with which he uploaded his executives to the INEC portal."

In a firm warning, the committee cautioned individuals and groups it accused of trying to tarnish the party's image to cease their activities immediately. It insisted that there is only one recognized PDP national leadership under Mohammed's chairmanship.

New Appointments and Roadmap to Congresses

To strengthen its internal administration, the caretaker committee also assigned key portfolios to some of its members. The new appointments include:

  • Professor Adenike Ogunse as Women Leader.
  • Engineer Deji Dohati as Deputy National Secretary.
  • Senator Olaka Ogunwu as Treasurer.
  • Hon. Jungu Haruna Mohammed as Publicity Secretary.
  • Ambassador Dr. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki as Youth Leader.

Looking ahead, the committee approved a calendar for state congresses, which are scheduled to begin on January 9, 2026. It clarified that a date for the national convention would only be fixed after the successful conclusion of these state congresses, with a detailed timetable to be released later.

Leadership's Assurance to the Public

In his opening remarks, Acting Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed expressed gratitude to the party's leadership, the Board of Trustees, and the party's leader, Minister Nyesom Wike, for entrusting the committee with a 60-day mandate.

He assured the public and the press that there was no cause for alarm regarding other gatherings, stating emphatically, "We have only one PDP under my leadership and my team as the caretaker committee of our great party." Mohammed emphasized the committee's commitment to running the party's affairs in strict compliance with the PDP constitution and the laws of Nigeria.
