Presidential aspirant Peter Obi has vowed to serve only one term of four years if elected, stating he would not extend his tenure even under duress. In an interview with News Central, Obi, who has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to contest the party's primary, reaffirmed his commitment to stability.
Obi's Firm Stance on Term Limits
“I want to be a one-term president for stability. I will not stay a day longer than four years, even with a gun to my head,” he declared. This statement underscores his resolve to adhere strictly to constitutional term limits.
Political Maneuvering for 2027
After coming third in the 2023 election under the Labour Party, Obi is maneuvering for a 2027 bid. Reports indicate a potential alliance with Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate. Obi is currently with the NDC, hoping to clinch the party's presidential ticket.
Obi's declaration comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the next general elections. His insistence on a single term is aimed at promoting political stability and focusing on governance without distraction.
