The Forum of State Chairmen of Nigeria's Social Democratic Party (SDP) has issued a stern warning to individuals it describes as impostors and political opportunists. The group is targeting those spreading what it calls false narratives about a recent Supreme Court judgment.
Clarifying the Supreme Court Ruling
In a statement released in Abuja on 22 December 2025, the Forum's Secretary, who is also the Nasarawa State Chairman, Hon. Musa Danlami, took a firm stance. He stated it was critical to confront and dismiss misleading stories designed to sow confusion within the party's ranks.
Danlami provided a clear explanation of the court's decision. He emphasized that the Supreme Court ruling was strictly an electoral matter stemming from previously concluded by-elections. The judgment merely affirmed an earlier ruling from the Court of Appeal.
"At no point did the Supreme Court pronounce on, validate, or entertain any question relating to SDP national leadership," Danlami stated categorically. He labeled any effort to twist the judgment into an endorsement of any leadership faction as "a calculated lie and a deliberate attempt to deceive our members and the Nigerian public."
Condemning External Interference and Kangaroo Actions
The Forum also strongly condemned a recent incident described as a "forceful and laughably theatrical invasion" of the National Chairman's office. Danlami attributed this action to a self-appointed "kangaroo team" and framed it as part of a politically motivated plot.
He suggested the plot was encouraged by external forces, including elements exploiting state security institutions. This allegation points to deeper concerns about interference in the party's internal affairs.
A Call for Unity and Constitutional Order
Reiterating the party's foundational principles, Danlami reminded everyone that legitimacy within the SDP flows solely from the party's constitution. He called on all genuine party members across Nigeria to remain resolute, vigilant, and unshaken by the actions of impostors.
"Do not be distracted by impostors or those seeking to hijack what they did not build," he urged. The SDP, one of Nigeria's oldest political parties, has a long history of advocating for internal democracy, the rule of law, and institutional integrity.
Despite facing numerous electoral disputes and internal factional challenges over the years, the party's leadership insists on unity. "The SDP remains a party of law, order, internal democracy, and institutional integrity. We will defend the unity of the Social Democratic Party against every form of sabotage," Danlami concluded.
