Senator Saliu Mustapha has denied participating in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kwara Central senatorial primary, reaffirming his ambition to contest the Kwara governorship election in 2027. The lawmaker's media team described as fake and misleading a purported list of aspirants that included Mustapha as a contender against Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Media Team Dismisses Report
Nasif Sholagberu, Media Assistant to Senator Saliu Mustapha representing Kwara Central, stated that the document is forged, fake, and of no consequence. The team emphasized that Mustapha only purchased governorship nomination forms, not senatorial ones.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Saliu Mustapha officially obtained APC Nomination Forms to contest the governorship of Kwara State in the 2027 General Elections,” the statement read. “He did so openly, willingly, and publicly in full view of party leaders, stakeholders, supporters, and the general public.”
No Participation in Senate Race
The media team clarified that at no time did Mustapha obtain nomination forms for the Senate, nor did he participate in any screening process for the senatorial contest. They challenged anyone with contrary evidence to present it publicly, urging the public to ignore the fake list and desperate misinformation circulated by mischief makers aiming to create confusion within the party.
The denial came in response to a viral news report claiming that Mustapha had stepped down from the senatorial primary for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was listed as the lone aspirant for the 2027 senatorial race. According to the report, the governor was number 17 on the party list, while Mustapha appeared as number 18.
Public Concerns Addressed
The inclusion of Mustapha on the list of contestants for Kwara Central Senate race raised concerns among Kwarans, who expected him to be contesting the governorship election. The media team reiterated that Mustapha's focus remains on the governorship, and any suggestion otherwise is false.
