Why Enugu APC Primaries Have Been Peaceful – Committee

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Assembly Primary Election Committee has attributed the peaceful conduct of party primaries in Enugu State to the transformative governance introduced by Governor Peter Mbah. The committee stated that there have been no reports of ugly incidents, as party members and delegates have conducted themselves in an orderly manner.

Committee Chairman Commends Enugu APC

Chairman of the party's National Assembly Primary in the state, Funkekeme Solomon, made this known while declaring the results of the election. He described Enugu as a true case of emulation for other APC states. We are satisfied with the conduct of the primaries. We did not encounter any rancorous situation, he said.

Winners of Senatorial Primaries Announced

Announcing the results, Solomon revealed that two serving senators, Kelvin Chukwu and Osita Ngwu, won the senatorial primaries in Enugu East and Enugu West senatorial constituencies, respectively. He also declared Ikeje Asogwa as the winner of the primary for the Enugu North senatorial seat. The committee expressed happiness at concluding the process smoothly.

We have received all results. The members have peacefully conducted themselves, and we believe the outcome of the exercise will strengthen all other primaries and the outcome of the general elections, Solomon stated.

Detailed Vote Tallies

Solomon announced that Ngwu, who was the sole candidate for Enugu West, secured 70,015 votes to emerge as the party's candidate. For Enugu East, Kelvin Chukwu polled 111,743 votes to beat Nnaji Sharon, who secured 482 votes. In the Enugu North senatorial seat, four aspirants contested. Ikeje Asogwa polled 125,089 votes to defeat Eze Chinazo (782 votes), Edith Ugwuanyi (876 votes), and Charles Ugwuanyi (736 votes).

Governor Mbah Commended for Peaceful Primaries

Solomon commended Governor Mbah for the transformation that facilitated the peaceful conduct of the primaries. He urged those who did not succeed in the exercise to support the governor and the winners for the growth of the party.

State Party Chairman, Martin Chukwunwike, stated that the conduct of the primaries so far had been smooth and transparent. He thanked the committee for its painstaking efforts, which culminated in a peaceful primary, stressing that the party would do everything possible not to violate the Electoral Act.

Senator Ngwu Expresses Gratitude

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Senator Ngwu thanked Governor Mbah for providing exceptional leadership and a platform for a seamless process. We will remain forever grateful to the governor. The governor has moved the state up to the first three in the country, and there is nothing to repay him than to support him, he said. He also praised the committee and party leadership for a thorough job.
