Yusuf Buhari, the son of former President Muhammadu Buhari, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections. His candidacy was confirmed unopposed during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Katsina on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Consensus Reached for Yusuf Buhari
The chairman of the Consensus Committee for Daura Zone, Alhaji Ahmed Dangiwa, who also served as the former minister of housing and urban development, announced that the committee had unanimously adopted Yusuf Buhari as the party’s candidate. Dangiwa stated that the decision was reached after extensive consultations with party stakeholders, ensuring unity and progress within the APC in the region.
Yusuf Buhari expressed gratitude to APC members for the confidence placed in him and pledged to provide quality representation if elected in 2027. He emphasized his commitment to the development of the constituency and the well-being of its people.
Party Leaders Call for Unity
The APC Chairman for Mai’adua Local Government, Mannir Musa, urged all party members to accept Yusuf’s adoption in good faith. He called on aspirants who received tickets through consensus to work diligently for their constituents when elected in the secondary election. Musa also appealed to Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda to support aspirants who did not receive APC tickets, enabling them to continue serving the people.
“I urge all our people to be obedient and accept the consensus reached by the committee and stakeholders in good faith. We should all work together for the unity and progress of the party and our people,” Musa said.
Other Candidates Receive Automatic Tickets
In addition to Yusuf Buhari, other candidates were also offered automatic tickets. Nasir Yahaya secured the APC ticket for the Daura senatorial seat race, while Mustapha Musa was adopted for the Mai’adua constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly. These consensus decisions aim to streamline the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
Background on Yusuf Buhari’s Political Ambition
Yusuf Buhari had earlier informed stakeholders about his intention to contest in the 2027 elections. Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad disclosed that Yusuf would run for a seat in the House of Representatives under the APC banner. His declaration for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency seat generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some expressing support and others raising concerns about political dynasties.
Endorsement from Governor Radda
Reports indicate that Governor Dikko Umar Radda identified Yusuf as his anointed candidate for the upcoming political race. APC stakeholders in Katsina have solidified their support for Muhammadu Buhari’s son, aiming to boost the party’s election chances in the region. This endorsement is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the APC’s base in Katsina State.
The APC continues to emphasize party unity and progress as it prepares for the 2027 elections. Members are encouraged to support all candidates and work together for the collective success of the party.
