Abdulsalam Abdulkarim Zaura, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially declared his intention to contest for the Kano Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general election. The international businessman and philanthropist made the announcement at the state party secretariat on Sunday, where he submitted his expression of interest form.
Accompanied by a large number of supporters and party loyalists, Zaura stated, “We are here today to declare that we are ready for the contest under the most powerful and influential party in the country.” The aspirant, widely known as AA Zaura, emphasized that he possesses all the necessary qualities to represent the senatorial district at the National Assembly and expressed confidence in his chances of victory against other contenders.
Battle Ready for 2027
Zaura, who lost the same contest in 2023 to the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), declared that he is “battle ready” to clinch the seat in 2027. He commended the state party leadership under Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa for providing a level playing field for all aspirants to express their ambitions. “In Kano, we are battle-ready, and we have a very strong team managing party affairs. We shall return here, just as we are here today, to celebrate APC’s success from top to bottom,” Zaura added.
Support from Campaign Team
Earlier, the former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and leader of the Zaura campaign team, Alhaji Yau Yan Shana, stated that Kano Central requires quality representation that will improve the standard of living. He insisted that Zaura remains the most suitable candidate to deliver. Yan Shana explained that Zaura’s contributions to the socio-economic development of Kano stand out, noting that his support for education, healthcare, and social empowerment are strong justifications for widespread acceptance. “We are committed to making a difference. Zaura is the man to salvage the situation in Kano Central. He is the right person for the seat, with a strong team to improve the lives of the people who have endured challenges over the years,” the campaign leader said.
Party Chairman's Assurance
The APC State Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, commended Zaura for declaring his interest in flying the party’s flag and assured that the party would remain neutral while providing a level playing field for all aspirants. “The caliber of people I have seen in this entourage is exceptional individuals who are trustworthy and reliable in grassroots politics. We will ensure that the right thing is done. Anyone with quality and integrity will be given the opportunity to contest. Let me assure all party members that, God willing, we will secure victory. This is a party with the highest chances of winning elections. We have already achieved nine out of ten requirements needed for victory. If you are not in the APC, you are on your own a loser already,” Doguwa stated.
