Lawmaker's Landmark Birthday Celebration Benefits University and Constituents

In a remarkable display of public service and philanthropy, Dr. Adegboyega Adefarati, the lawmaker representing Akoko South-West/Akoko South-East in the House of Representatives, marked his 60th birthday with significant donations and empowerment programs for his constituents.

Historic Ambulance Donation to University

The highlight of the celebration was the presentation of a brand new ambulance to Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA). During the handover ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, received the vehicle keys from the celebrant amidst appreciation from the university community.

Professor Ige described the gesture as commendable and unprecedented in the institution's history. He noted that this donation would provide substantial relief to the university community's healthcare needs and praised Adefarati as a reliable and responsible representative.

The VC also acknowledged the lawmaker's father, late Governor Adefarati, for his role in bringing the university to the community during his tenure as Vice Principal and Governor.

Comprehensive Youth and Community Empowerment

Beyond the ambulance donation, the lawmaker implemented extensive empowerment initiatives targeting students and vulnerable groups. The program included:

  • Distribution of 50 laptops to students and youths
  • N50,000 bursary awards to 1,000 students
  • Financial relief of N100,000 to 100 widows

Additionally, constituents revealed that Adefarati had facilitated employment opportunities for over 50 people, further demonstrating his commitment to community development.

National Recognition and Spiritual Commencement

President Bola Tinubu, in his congratulatory message, recognized Adefarati as "a patriotic Nigerian" whose decades of service as a teacher and banker, combined with political experience, have significantly contributed to national development and democratic consolidation.

The President specifically noted Adefarati's effectiveness as Chairman of the House Committee on Labour, Productivity and Employment, where he has helped foster industrial harmony between government and labour unions.

The birthday celebrations began with a Holy Communion service at the Diocese of Akoko (Church of Nigeria) Anglican Communion, Chapel of Peace, Adefarati Estate, Akungba Akoko. The service was administered by Rev'd Stephen O. Owo, Venerable O.O. Oyediran, and Rt. Rev. J.O.B. Bada (JP), the Lord Bishop of Akoko Diocese.

In his sermon, Bishop Bada admonished the celebrant and congregation to live a life that counts and focus on celebrating what remains rather than dwelling on the past.

The university's registrar and entire community expressed gratitude for the lawmaker's timely interventions in infrastructure and other amenities, cementing his reputation as a development-focused representative.
