A prominent former agitator from the Niger Delta region has issued a heartfelt New Year message, calling for renewed commitment to peace and national unity as Nigeria steps into 2026.
Amagbein Extends Greetings to Leadership and Citizens
General Endurance Amagbein, often referred to as Adaka Boro the second, conveyed his felicitations to the government and people of Nigeria in a statement released to journalists in Abuja on January 1, 2026. He expressed optimism for a fruitful year, encouraging Nigerians to maintain hope and believe in the nation's potential for greatness.
Amagbein directed special commendations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the National Assembly. He praised their wisdom in steering the country through its numerous challenges and keeping the nation united.
Saluting the Nation's Security Architecture
The ex-agitator also took time to applaud the dedication of the nation's security and defence chiefs. He specifically congratulated the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), and the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, alongside all service chiefs.
He acknowledged their selfless service in defending Nigeria's sovereignty and prayed for God's strength to enable them to achieve more in the new year. His greetings further extended to tactical commands in the Niger Delta, including:
- The Commanding Officers of 5 Battalion Elele, Port Harcourt, and 16 Brigade, Yenagoa.
- The Director of DSS in Bayelsa State.
- The Central Naval Command Headquarters in Yenagoa.
- The Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Delta Safe.
He credited these formations with maintaining peace and securing lives and property in the region.
A Clarion Call for Collective Action
Amagbein described the New Year as a fresh opportunity for both citizens and leaders to support one another. He urged Nigerians to consciously reject actions that threaten peace and unity, stating that 2026 should be a year dedicated to making life easier, better, and more meaningful for all.
He emphasised a dual responsibility for the populace: to remain security-conscious and to actively support the armed forces in the fight against insecurity within their local communities. Furthermore, Amagbein stressed the need for citizens to rally behind President Tinubu's administration to enable it to deliver more democratic dividends.
Concluding his message, the former militant leader pledged his continued support to the Tinubu-led federal government and offered prayers for the protection of military personnel serving the nation.
