APC Chieftain Says Nigeria Lacks Direction Since 1960 Independence
APC Chieftain: Nigeria Lacks Direction Since 1960

Ajiboye Abiodun Ajiboye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation, has asserted that Nigeria has lacked a clear developmental direction since gaining independence in 1960.

Uncoordinated Infrastructure Development

Speaking on Arise Television's Prime Time programme on Tuesday, June 16, Ajiboye described the country's infrastructure development as largely uncoordinated. He argued that previous administrations failed to implement long-standing development plans, leaving the nation without a cohesive strategy for growth.

Ajiboye remarked, "The situation with Nigeria is like a country that has existed since 1960, with no direction in terms of infrastructure. We didn't have any direction."

Neglected Development Plans

He highlighted that some infrastructure projects currently being executed by President Bola Tinubu are actually development plans from 1983 that subsequent governments did not touch. This neglect, he said, has contributed to the nation's stagnation.

"Some of the infrastructure projects that President Bola Tinubu is executing now are development plans of 1983 that subsequent governments did not touch," Ajiboye stated.

Call for Nationalistic Responsibility

Ajiboye also emphasized that a conscious effort was not made to build a society of nationalistic, patriotic, and civil Nigerians. He called on every individual to take ownership of the nation's challenges.

"Also, a conscious effort wasn't made to build a society of nationalistic, patriotic and civil Nigerians. The problems of Nigeria should be every individual's problem," he concluded.
