APC Breaks Silence, Denounces ADC as 'Confused Politicians' Ahead of 2027
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a strong condemnation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the opposition party as "an assembly of Nigeria's most confused and desperate politicians" and accusing it of disseminating unfounded conspiracy theories against the ruling party. In a statement released by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party addressed the ongoing internal turmoil within the ADC, warning that blaming the APC for its problems is "highly escapist and irresponsible."
APC Accuses ADC of Self-Inflicted Crisis and Leadership Violations
Morka highlighted the factional leadership disputes within the ADC, specifically targeting figures such as David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola. He accused them of "parachuting into the party like thoughtless, planless commandos" and violating constitutional provisions for leadership succession. According to the APC, these actions have led to the rapid unraveling of the ADC, which Morka characterized as a "kamikaze contraption" designed for self-destruction.
The statement emphasized that the ADC's internal crisis is entirely self-inflicted, with Morka noting, "The ADC is a party that never was. By design, it was a kamikaze contraption with a 'follow-come' self-destructive detonator. It had to unravel and is now unravelling fast by instalment." This criticism underscores the APC's view that the opposition party lacks the organizational stability necessary for effective political engagement.
APC Backs INEC's Decision and Reaffirms Support for Tinubu's Government
In addition to its verbal attacks, the APC expressed full support for the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) move to de-recognize the Mark-led faction of the ADC. Morka stated that this decision is "valid in law, justified in fact, and consistent with electoral policy and democratic practice." He attributed the ADC's current turmoil to its own "reckless and desperate misadventure," further distancing the APC from any responsibility for the opposition's struggles.
The APC also used the opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to governance under President Bola Tinubu. Morka concluded, "Our great party and the administration of President Bola Tinubu remain steadfast in delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening democratic institutions for the peace, unity and prosperity of all Nigerians." This statement aims to project the APC as focused on national development rather than political squabbles.
ADC's Allegations and the Broader Political Context
Previously, the ADC had raised concerns about alleged plots by the APC to organize protests against its leadership under Senator David Mark. ADC National Publicity Secretary Malam Bolaji Abdullahi claimed on social media that the ruling party had shifted tactics after failing to use INEC to frustrate the opposition, now resorting to protests aimed at destabilization. However, the APC's latest statement dismisses these allegations as part of the ADC's "senseless attacks" and conspiracy theories.
Morka stressed that the ADC's inability to manage its internal affairs renders it unfit as a credible political platform, stating, "A party that cannot fix itself cannot possibly fix Nigeria. The ADC has absolutely nothing to offer more than its senseless attacks against the APC." This exchange highlights the escalating tensions between the two parties as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, with both sides positioning themselves in a contentious political landscape.
