The Bishop of the Diocese of Ife, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Olubunmi Akinlade, has issued a strong warning to political actors against actions that could destabilize the nation's political environment. He emphasized that such tendencies pose a serious threat to the sustenance of democratic governance in Nigeria.
Call for True Democracy
Akinlade made this charge during the third session of the 12th Synod of the Diocese of Ife, held at the Cathedral of St. Philip, Aiyetoro, Ile-Ife, Osun State. He expressed concern over what he described as unprecedented political alignments and defections, noting that these trends, largely driven by personal interests, are gradually steering the country toward a one-party dominant system. He warned that such a development would be detrimental to the growth of democracy.
Ekiti Diocese Advocates Godly Parenting
In a related development, the Ekiti Anglican Diocese of the church called on Nigerians to embrace Godly parenting, uphold electoral integrity, and demand stronger security measures. This appeal was part of the resolutions made at the conclusion of the third session of its 20th Synod, which also included activities marking its 60th anniversary. The synod took place at the Ekiti Diocesan Camp Ground (Ile Adura) and gathered over 700 participants, including clergy, laity, and church leaders.
The event, presided over by the Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Andrew Olusola Ajayi, stressed that raising God-fearing children is both a spiritual and social responsibility. It urged parents to prioritize discipline, intentional Christian upbringing, and mentorship as essential tools for shaping future generations.
