The Federal Government has received commendation for its continued support of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, which has persisted despite numerous challenges since its inception over five decades ago. This praise was voiced by the NYSC Coordinator in Katsina State, Mr. Okwor Evans, during the scheme's 53rd anniversary celebration held on Friday.

Mr. Evans addressed staff and corps members at the event, describing the anniversary as a moment of joy and deep appreciation. He noted that the NYSC has remained one of Nigeria's most resilient institutions since its establishment in 1973 under the administration of General Yakubu Gowon. The coordinator emphasized that the scheme's relevance to nation-building and national integration cannot be overstated. He called on both corps members and staff to uphold and sustain the core ideals of the NYSC.
Evans further urged corps members to remain dedicated throughout their service year and to ensure that their conduct reflects the values instilled during their orientation course. The celebration included sensitization sessions on the history and objectives of the scheme, highlighting its critical roles in fostering national unity, reconstruction, reconciliation, and rehabilitation.
Key Programs Highlighted
During the event, emphasis was placed on the importance of the Community Development Service (CDS), Skills Acquisition, and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program. These initiatives were presented as vital components of the NYSC's mission to equip young Nigerians with practical skills and a sense of civic responsibility.
The anniversary festivities also featured a colorful procession through the heart of the Katsina metropolitan area, culminating in the ceremonial cutting of the 53rd anniversary cake. The event served as a testament to the enduring legacy of the NYSC and its continued contribution to Nigeria's development.
