Cross River Governor Otu Mandates Commissioners to Submit Stewardship Reports
Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has issued a directive requiring all commissioners and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to render comprehensive accounts of their stewardship since he assumed office in May 2023. This order was part of a resolution adopted during a meeting held at the Governor's office on Friday, with details disclosed to journalists in Calabar by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Erasmus Ekpang.
Preparation for Third-Year Anniversary
The submissions from the MDAs will be integrated into the state Governor's scorecard, which will be presented during his upcoming third-year anniversary celebration. Dr Ekpang elaborated on the directive, stating, "As preparations continue for the third-year anniversary of the People First administration, Governor Otu has directed all heads of MDAs to submit a compressed report of their milestones over the past nearly three years of his stewardship."
The reports must be submitted to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the State no later than May 1, 2026. Governor Otu expressed strong confidence that greater achievements will be realized in 2026 and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all MDAs meet their targeted results. He emphasized his determination to maintain an open-door policy and make his administration more participatory, noting that additional appointments for various stakeholders are currently in progress.
Approval of WAEC Registration Funds
In a related development, the council meeting approved a sum of ₦339,903,000.00 (Three Hundred Thirty-Nine Million, Nine Hundred and Three Thousand Naira) for the registration of 12,589 indigenous students for the 2026 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examinations. This funding underscores the administration's focus on educational support and development within the state.
Governor Otu's directive aims to enhance transparency and accountability, ensuring that the achievements and challenges of his administration are thoroughly documented and assessed as he approaches the milestone of three years in office.
