IPOB Celebrates 'Total Compliance' with Sit-at-Home, Vows Unwavering Support for Nnamdi Kanu
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has asserted that the extensive adherence to Monday's sit-at-home order across various parts of the South-East region serves as undeniable proof that residents cannot be intimidated into abandoning the group's detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu. In a statement released by the organization, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful characterized the exercise as achieving "total compliance across Biafraland," commending South-East inhabitants for their steadfast loyalty.
Market Closure and Government Response in Anambra
This civil action was initiated by IPOB as a show of solidarity with traders at the Onitsha Main Market, following the closure of their shops by Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo. Although the state government subsequently reopened the market after a one-week shutdown, reports indicate that only a minimal number of traders resumed operations at their stalls. The situation reflected broader regional sentiments, with major roads appearing largely deserted and offices, businesses, and educational institutions remaining closed, particularly during the morning hours.
A Strong Message of Unity and Resistance
According to IPOB, the widespread shutdown across communities represents a powerful expression of unity and sends a clear message that threats or pressure will not fracture the allegiance of the Biafran people. The group emphasized that the overwhelming support for Nnamdi Kanu symbolizes strength and collective determination, rather than any perceived weakness. "The outcome of the sit-at-home showed that the people are determined to resist intimidation and coercion in their continued demand for Kanu's release from detention," the statement elaborated.
Commitment to Order and Justice
IPOB further maintained its dedication to order, discipline, and respect for institutions, while simultaneously vowing to oppose any attempts to intimidate or suppress its supporters. The organization argued that the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu only serves to reinforce the legitimacy of their pursuit for justice. This stance underscores the group's resolve to continue advocating for their leader's freedom through peaceful yet firm demonstrations of public support.
