Kano APC Leaders Rally Behind Rabiu Suleiman Bichi for Deputy Governor Position
In a significant political development, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and the immediate past Chairman of the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, have publicly endorsed Rabiu Suleiman Bichi for the vacant Deputy Governor's slot in the state. This endorsement was announced on Monday through a statement issued by the Organising Secretary of the APC Legacy Group, Malam Indo Kwarin Albarka, and disseminated to news outlets in Abuja.
Strategic Nomination to Unify Party Members
According to the statement, Bichi's nomination is viewed as a strategic maneuver aimed at fostering unity among APC members across Kano State. The motion to appoint Bichi as Deputy Governor was reportedly moved by Abdullahi Abbas during a stakeholders meeting and seconded by the deputy state chairman, Salisu Maje Ahmad Gwangwazo. The APC Legacy Group emphasized that Bichi's selection "remains the only option to knit together APC supporters in Kano," highlighting that his appointment would enhance party cohesion in preparation for upcoming political activities.
Bichi's Extensive Public Service Record
The statement elaborated on Bichi's qualifications, describing him as a nominee of exceptional maturity and experience with a unique blend of leadership across state, federal, and development sectors. His distinguished career includes serving as the Managing Director of the Urban Development Bank of Nigeria (UDBN), Managing Director of KNUPDA, Honourable Commissioner, and Secretary to the State Government (SSG) under two administrations. Currently, Bichi holds the position of Managing Director at the Hadejia Jama'are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), a role that further underscores his administrative competence and leadership capabilities.
Credentials and Support for Governance
The APC Legacy Group asserted that Bichi's credentials position him strongly to effectively support the governor, noting his experience spans key sectors crucial for governance and development. His profile is said to reflect "the age, academic credentials, and administrative sagacity required for this exalted position." The group urged all party stakeholders to unite behind Bichi's candidacy for the overall benefit of the APC in Kano State.
Clarification on Meeting Proceedings
In response to circulating reports, the Legacy Group dismissed claims of voting during the enlarged stakeholders meetings held last weekend as fabrications. They clarified that the other two contenders for the position were nominated solely for submission to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who will make the final selection. This clarification was deemed necessary to counter what the group described as desperate attempts by some factions to mislead the public about the actual events.
Malam Indo Kwarin Albarka expressed confidence that Rabiu Suleiman Bichi will emerge as the chosen candidate, citing his widespread popularity among stakeholders. The endorsement signals a concerted effort by APC leaders to consolidate party strength and ensure a smooth political transition in Kano.
