Kano Executive Council Greenlights N310 Billion for Comprehensive Development Initiatives
The Kano State Executive Council has given its approval for a substantial investment totaling N310,266,203,46, aimed at bolstering infrastructure, stimulating economic growth, and enhancing social welfare across the state. This decision was announced following the 38th council meeting held at the Government House, with Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, providing details to journalists.
Education Sector Receives Major Boost
In a significant move to improve educational access and quality, the council has allocated funds for several key initiatives under the Ministry of Education. A sum of N238,020,000.00 has been approved for the purchase of UTME (JAMB) forms, which will be distributed to eligible candidates statewide. Additionally, N179,611,591.64 is earmarked for the general rehabilitation of Government Girls Secondary School Hotoro South in Nassarawa LGA.
Further investments include N395,682,251.00 for additional works, fencing, and renovation at Government Secondary School Badau and Government Girls Secondary School Badau in Bagwai Local Government Area. To ensure continuous support for boarding students, the council approved N1,543,019,496.48 for settling payments to suppliers covering a six-week period across academic terms, along with N236,198,174.08 for outstanding payments for eggs and chickens supplied to boarding schools.
Moreover, N264,000,000.00 has been allocated for the purchase of textbooks to be distributed to students across all 44 Local Government Areas, reinforcing the state's commitment to public education.
Infrastructure and Public Works Advancements
Under the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the council has sanctioned multiple projects to enhance road networks and public facilities. Key approvals include:
- N241,302,554.21 for general renovation and completion works at the Kano State Fire Service Headquarters in Kofar Nassarawa.
- N81,093,284.57 for the completion of Alhaji Muhammad Yaro Sale Sarkin Noman Nassarawa Juma’at Mosque in Ladanai Kantudu, Hotoron Arewa.
- N122,077,885.53 for additional works on the ongoing renovation of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital near the Emir’s Palace.
- N119,952,625.22 for the maintenance of Rimin Auzinawa Road in Ungogo Local Government Area.
- N184,350,183.48 for the construction of the Ladanai Road Network.
- N13,200,000,000.00 for the implementation of 2026 Constituency Projects across the state.
- N483,608,773.80 for additional works on the ongoing renovation of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.
Rural Development and Connectivity Projects
The Ministry for Rural and Community Development has received approval for several road projects aimed at improving rural connectivity. These include:
- N120,083,280.31 for a 4KM road with 2-coat surface dressing, culverts, and drainage linking Masku–Andawa–Yafata in Gezawa Local Government Area.
- N1,068,848,712.16 for the construction of feeder roads in Bichi, Dambatta, Garko, and Takai Local Government Areas.
- N368,229,186.63 for a 4KM 2-coat surface dressing road with two cross culverts from Tumbau to Musku in Gezawa Local Government Area.
- N1,500,000,000.00 for the implementation of 2026 Special Intervention Projects statewide.
Water Resources and Health Sector Investments
To address utility and healthcare needs, the council approved N608,394,370.49 for settling electricity bills owed to Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) for the state's five major water treatment plants for November and December 2025. Additionally, N110,494,031.74 was allocated for the renovation of Dadin Kowa Juma’at Mosque in Doguwa Local Government Area.
In the health sector, N89,710,080.00 has been approved for procuring four dialysis machines for the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, and N165,637,550.00 for dental equipment and materials for basic healthcare services (Phase II).
Additional Key Approvals Across Ministries
The council also sanctioned funds for various other sectors:
- Ministry of Land and Physical Planning: N1,700,000,000.00 for compensation to 724 households affected by a 330KVA transmission line project, and N311,384,502.00 for properties affected by road construction in Kumbotso LGA.
- Ministry of Environment: N401,166,223.88 for reinforced concrete drainage construction in Dala LGA, and N210,000,000.00 for producing 10 million seedlings for the 2026 Annual Tree Planting Campaign.
- Ministry of Power: N299,720,032.88 for extending a 33KV High Tension line along Bunkure Road to Kano Expressway.
- Ministry of Religious Affairs: N1,343,688,000.00 for the 2026 Ramadan Feeding Programme.
- Ministry of Livestock Development: N171,250,000.00 for a Youth Empowerment Programme on Small Feeds Milling to boost livestock production and create jobs.
- Ministry of Housing Development: N113,193,271,436.44 for constructing a Mass Housing Scheme with 480 houses at Rijiyar Gwan-Gwan, and N1,004,342,689.86 for establishing an Emergency Operations Management Centre at the Government House.
