Kwara APC Hopeful Ahmad Muhammad Declares for Assembly

A frontline grassroots politician, Hon. Ahmad Muhammad, popularly known as Dan Masani Gwanabe, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Kaiama Constituency I seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Declaration Event

Muhammad, who is also the founder of the Mai Nasara Foundation, made the declaration on Wednesday in Kaiama at a gathering attended by APC stakeholders, youth groups, women associations, and community leaders from Adena, Bani, Gwanabe, and Gwaria wards. He stated that his decision to join the 2027 race followed months of consultations with residents across the constituency on issues affecting development, security, and governance.

"I stand before you today with a deep sense of humility and responsibility. For months, I have listened to the voices of our people, engaged with women who are the backbone of our economy, and sat with elders and youth across our communities. Your message has been clear: you are looking for representation that translates the needs of Kaiama Local Government Area into tangible progress. After extensive consultation and reflection, I formally accept your nomination to contest for the State House of Assembly," he stated.

Development Agenda

Muhammad noted that although the constituency possesses huge agricultural potential and an energetic youth population, meaningful growth would only be achieved through deliberate leadership and accountable governance. "Potential alone does not fix roads, improve healthcare, or create jobs. It requires a bridge between policy and the people," he stated.

He outlined his agenda around three pillars: economic empowerment for farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs, improved educational opportunities, and inclusive governance that accommodates women and youths. "My commitment to you is rooted in economic empowerment, educational excellence, and inclusive governance that ensures every segment of our society has a voice," he said.

Call for Performance-Based Evaluation

The aspirant urged constituents to evaluate leaders based on performance and capacity to deliver rather than political rhetoric. "Do not judge me by what I say today. Judge me by the results I deliver and the actions I take once entrusted with the mandate," he said.

Youth Endorsement

Earlier, the Kaiama Constituency I Youth Movement endorsed Muhammad's aspiration, describing him as a unifying figure with a strong record of grassroots engagement and humanitarian service. The coordinator of the group, Comrade Abubakar Abdulgafar, said the endorsement followed consultations with stakeholders and youths across the constituency. "After careful observation and consultation, we have reached a unanimous resolution to pass a vote of confidence in Hon. Ahmad Muhammad," he said.

The group commended Muhammad's humanitarian interventions through the Mai Nasara Foundation, noting that his support for vulnerable residents had strengthened trust and community relations. "He remains accessible to the youth, listens to elders, and maintains an open-door approach that builds trust and strengthens community bonds," the group stated. The coalition further expressed confidence in his development agenda, saying it reflects the aspirations of youths, women, and underserved groups within the constituency. "The youth, women, and vulnerable groups deserve leadership that provides actionable solutions, not just promises," Abdulgafar added.

Donation to Victims of Bandit Attack

In a gesture of solidarity, Muhammad donated 1 million naira to families of the five slain forest guards and victims injured during a recent attack on Nuku village in Kaiama Local Government Area. The attack, allegedly carried out by suspected bandits, claimed the lives of local forest guards engaged in protecting rural communities and farmlands from criminal activities, while several others sustained injuries. The donation came amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Kaiama, with residents calling for stronger security measures to safeguard lives and property.

Outlook for 2027

Supporters at the event also expressed optimism that the APC would record victory in Kwara State during the 2027 elections, citing increased grassroots mobilisation and political engagement across the state.
