Kwara Governorship Aspirant Sulaiman Unveils Prosperity Agenda Blueprint
Former Special Adviser on Health Matters in Kwara State, Professor Wale Sulaiman, has officially declared his candidacy for the 2027 governorship election under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during a significant event in Ilorin, where Sulaiman presented his detailed policy framework titled the Kwara Prosperity Agenda.
Background and Political Emergence
Sulaiman, who gained prominence during the 2023 Kwara South senatorial contest, brings a wealth of experience from his tenure in Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's administration. He played a pivotal role in managing the COVID-19 pandemic, leveraging his expertise to implement effective public health strategies. His professional credentials include serving as a Professor of Neurosurgery at Tulane University and holding key leadership positions at the Ochsner Health System in New Orleans, USA, where he was System Chairman of Neurosurgery and Co-Medical Director of a Neuroscience Institute.
Key Components of the Kwara Prosperity Agenda
The newly unveiled blueprint emphasizes inclusive development, innovation, and bridging gaps across Kwara's three senatorial districts. Sulaiman articulated that his ambition is driven by a desire to build upon the achievements of the current administration, with a particular focus on enhancing the health sector. He highlighted his collaborative efforts during the pandemic, which included the critical restoration of the oxygen plant at Sobi Specialist Hospital—a facility that had been non-operational for nearly a decade.
Central to his healthcare master plan is the transformation of the Harmony Advanced Diagnostic Centre into a medical tourism hub, aimed at attracting patients and fostering medical partnerships both domestically and internationally. This initiative is designed to improve access to affordable, high-quality medical services throughout the state.
Emphasis on Party Unity and Governance
Sulaiman stressed the importance of unity within the APC, describing cohesion among party stakeholders as essential for electoral success and stable governance. He committed to fostering inclusiveness and maintaining cordial relationships across different party blocs, stating, Kwara deserves a unifier, not a divider. His mission includes strengthening the party and advancing collective interests in preparation for upcoming elections.
Leveraging his global experience and deep commitment to public welfare, Sulaiman pledged to deploy innovative strategies to enhance the well-being of Kwara's residents. His blueprint aims to consolidate existing reforms while introducing new measures to promote economic growth and social harmony across the state.
