Massive Crowd Welcomes Governor Yusuf in Kano After APC Convention

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received a rousing welcome on Saturday as thousands of residents and supporters thronged the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to receive him on his return to Kano. The massive turnout, largely made up of loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC), began gathering as early as 8 a.m. to witness the governor’s arrival following the party’s National Convention in Abuja.

Festive Atmosphere and Political Significance

Supporters from across the 44 local government areas of the state filled the VIP section of the airport’s domestic wing and spilled onto major roads leading to the Government House, creating a festive and highly charged atmosphere. Governor Yusuf arrived at about 2 p.m. alongside the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Jibrin Falgore, federal lawmakers from the state, and other key APC stakeholders—an appearance widely seen as sending a strong political signal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His return, after about 10 days in Abuja, drew widespread enthusiasm from supporters dressed in colourful attires, branded T-shirts, and caps, accompanied by live musical performances that energized the crowd. The reception soon transformed into a large political rally, as the governor’s convoy took nearly eight hours to reach the Government House—a journey that typically lasts less than 20 minutes—due to heavy congestion and the sheer number of people who lined the streets to welcome him.

Governor's Address and Commitment to Development

Addressing the crowd, Governor Yusuf described the reception as both humbling and energizing, reaffirming his commitment to people-oriented governance and the delivery of tangible democratic dividends. He stressed that his administration remains focused on accelerating development across key sectors and urged party members to sustain unity and strengthen grassroots mobilization as the political landscape evolves.

“I want to use this opportunity to reassure the good people of Kano State that this administration will continue to deliver dividends of democracy in all critical areas of human endeavour,” he said. The governor also pledged to sustain the state’s partnership with the Federal Government under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to attract more federal interventions to Kano State.

“The APC is consolidated with unity of purpose and, In sha Allah, the party will win all elective positions in the forthcoming 2027 general elections,” he added. The reception signals a consolidation of political momentum and reinforces Kano’s strategic importance in the party’s broader national outlook.

Event Organization and Broader Implications

The event was organised by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria under the leadership of its chairperson, Saadatu Yusha’u Soja, and witnessed a large turnout of stakeholders, including party executives, political office holders, supporters, entertainers, and traders. The turnout underscored what observers described as the governor’s growing political influence and his administration’s deepening connection with the people of Kano State.

This massive welcome not only highlights Governor Yusuf's popularity but also sets the stage for intensified political activities as the 2027 elections approach, with Kano poised to play a pivotal role in national politics.
