A gathering of Nigeria's political elite from various parties converged in Abuja on Saturday to celebrate the 60th birthday of former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. The event, a special colloquium, saw former presidents, vice presidents, and other leading figures set aside political differences to honour the celebrant.

The tributes were led by former Senate President and National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark. Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel event, Mark described Tambuwal as a humble, dependable, and trustworthy leader deeply committed to Nigeria's democratic ideals.
"For me, Senator Aminu Tambuwal is a son. He is a dependable and humble leader whose contributions to our democracy cannot be overlooked," Mark stated. He emphasized that Tambuwal's political career reflects discipline, loyalty, and service to the nation, qualities that have earned him respect across the political spectrum.
Keynote on Democracy and National Cohesion
The intellectual highlight of the colloquium was a keynote lecture delivered by former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega. His presentation was titled "The Future of Democratic Governance in Nigeria: Pathways to National Cohesion, Human Security and Economic Renewal."
The lecture set the tone for reflections on the state of the nation, aligning with the celebrant's perceived role in fostering unity. The event itself was notably populated by opposition politicians, underscoring Tambuwal's cross-party appeal.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar revealed he cut short a vacation abroad to attend, calling Tambuwal a remarkable leader worthy of celebration. The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, offered philosophical advice, noting that life at 60 offers an opportunity for reflection and renewal, and urged caution against unnecessary risks.
"I celebrate you and wish you well as you journey through life. The sky is your limit," Obi said. Chairman of the occasion, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, praised Tambuwal's humility and leadership, expressing confidence in his future contributions to national development.
