In a related development, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has attributed the failure of economic policies to persistent abrupt policy rollouts that lack sufficient sequencing and buffers for the most vulnerable citizens. Speaking in Abuja during the presentation of the ADC's Policy and Manifesto Committee report, Mark accused the ruling government of focusing more on stifling opposition parties rather than addressing issues that truly matter to Nigerians.
"One principle that stood out for me was that survival income must not be taxed," Mark declared. He elaborated that a nation where citizens are forced to provide their own electricity, security, and other basic amenities cannot build prosperity by taxing those who are merely struggling to survive. Mark assured that the ADC aims to address these weaknesses through its proposed "Principle of Gradual and Sequenced Reform with Social Cushioning."
