Obono-Obla Declares Fitness for APC National Publicity Secretary Role
As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for its upcoming National Convention this month, Chief Obono-Obla, the former Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution and Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel, has formally announced his intention to contest for the office of National Publicity Secretary of the party.
Shift in Political Aspirations
Obla, who had previously expressed interest in the position of APC National Secretary, revealed that he has reconsidered his ambitions to align with the party's strategic decisions. In a statement, he clarified, "I am aspiring to the position of National Publicity Secretary, or, in the alternative, the National Vice Chairman (South-South), subject to the approval of party leaders." This adjustment demonstrates his flexibility and commitment to the party's overall objectives.
Extensive Qualifications and Experience
In a telephone interview with The Guardian on Tuesday, the veteran politician, constitutional lawyer, and traditional ruler detailed why he believes he is the most suitable candidate for the role. With over 35 years of legal practice and significant government service, Obla emphasized his unique background. "I believe that I am best suited for the role because of my experience as Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution and Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel," he stated.
His deep institutional memory is bolstered by previous party roles, including serving as National Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), as well as Co-Secretary of the Joint Inter-Party Merger Committee that negotiated the formation of the APC in 2013. "As an aspirant with extensive institutional memory, I feel that I am well placed for the top job," Obla added, highlighting his insider knowledge of the party's evolution and internal dynamics.
Skills in Conflict Resolution and Media Relations
Since 2009, Obla has served as a traditional ruler in the Yakurr community in Cross River State, where he has refined his abilities as a judge, mediator, and administrator of justice. He pointed out that these skills are directly applicable to strengthening the APC's internal conflict resolution mechanisms, which is crucial for party cohesion.
Furthermore, Obla underscored his proficiency in media relations and governance, asserting that this expertise will enable him to effectively promote the party's Renewed Hope Agenda. "I will function seamlessly as a credible publicity anchor for the party," he affirmed, expressing confidence in his capacity to manage the party's public image and communication strategies.
Dedication to Service
Obla concluded by reiterating his willingness to serve the APC with dedication and distinction. He emphasized that his comprehensive skill set and extensive experience make him an ideal candidate for the position of National Publicity Secretary, promising to contribute significantly to the party's success and public engagement efforts.
