Governor Oborevwori Credits APC Defection for Delta State's Progress

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed strong satisfaction with the outcomes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Elective Convention, describing the event as a clear demonstration of the party's expanding strength and widespread national acceptance. Speaking to journalists during the convention held at Eagle Square in Abuja on Friday night, the governor emphasized that his strategic decision to join the APC in April 2025 is already yielding significant positive results for Delta State.

Strategic Alignment with Federal Government

Governor Oborevwori explained that his defection to the ruling party was primarily driven by the necessity to align Delta State more closely with the federal government. This move, he noted, has substantially enhanced the state's access to critical resources and improved overall governance outcomes. "I'm happy to be here today. That bold decision we took on April 28, 2025, is manifesting today. I was the first Governor after the 2023 election to move into APC, that was done because we wanted to connect with the centre and we have connected to the centre. Other state Governors have also emulated me in the decision we took," Oborevwori stated.

Improved Revenue and Governance

According to the governor, the increased revenue allocation to states under the current administration has significantly improved their capacity to meet key financial obligations. This includes the timely payment of salaries and the effective execution of various development projects. "We are happy with that decision we took because the policies and programmes of Mr President are working. But you know, it takes time. We know the sufferings of Nigerians, the policies are yielding; it's a gradual process," he remarked.

Oborevwori further elaborated, "You know before now, the money that was coming to states was not much, paying salaries was difficult. These days, we can pay salaries, we can pay our contractors. A lot of things are working for us." He highlighted that the APC now boasts 31 governors, a historic achievement since 1999, which he attributes to President Tinubu's effective leadership.

Praise for President Tinubu's Leadership

The governor praised President Bola Tinubu for his focused and bold approach, suggesting that the large turnout at the convention reflects strong support for his administration. "The crowd you are seeing here today, shows that Mr President is focused, he is bold and he is taking us somewhere. We believe that Nigerians will pay back by re-electing him in 2027," Oborevwori asserted.

Administrative Achievements in Delta State

On his administration's specific achievements, Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Delta State, particularly in critical sectors. "In infrastructure, we are doing well. In health and education, we are doing well. In security, we are making progress," he said. He also highlighted notable improvements in oil production, noting that there have been no recent incidents of attacks on oil facilities in the state, which has led to increased output. "Delta State remains number one in oil production, and we are going to do more for our people," he added.

Call for Continued Support

Governor Oborevwori urged Deltans and residents of the state to continue supporting both President Tinubu's administration and his own state government. He assured them that both levels of government are deeply committed to improving their welfare and advancing development initiatives across the region.
