Ohanaeze Youths Applaud National Assembly's Confidence Vote on Tantita and NNPCL
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Movement has expressed strong commendation for the National Assembly following its recent passage of a vote of confidence in Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), various security agencies, and the Federal Government. The group described this legislative action as a significant triumph of diligence, transparency, and unwavering commitment to national interest.
Resolution on Pipeline Surveillance Contracts
This positive reaction from the youth movement comes in response to a resolution adopted by the joint committees of the National Assembly on Petroleum Resources. The committees decisively dismissed petitions that had called for the decentralisation of pipeline surveillance contracts across oil-producing states in Nigeria. During a roundtable discussion on pipeline security held in Abuja on Wednesday, the National Assembly panel rejected these petitions after adopting a motion moved by a member of the joint committee.
The panel firmly argued that fragmenting pipeline surveillance contracts into multiple arrangements would severely undermine coordination and weaken accountability mechanisms. It emphasised that Nigeria's economic stability critically depends on strengthening effective systems rather than diluting them through unnecessary fragmentation.
Unanimous Support and Stakeholder Reactions
In what has been described as a landmark show of unity, more than 300 members of the National Assembly unanimously adopted the vote of confidence in Tantita Security Services. This move reaffirmed the company's pivotal role in pipeline surveillance and the broader fight against crude oil theft, which has been a persistent challenge for the nation's economy.
Similarly, the Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, stated that the petitions lacked merit. He noted that the petitioners failed to appear before the panel despite receiving several invitations, further weakening their case.
Statement from Ohanaeze Youths Movement
In a statement issued by its Acting National Secretary, Anderson Achili, the Ohanaeze Youths Movement highlighted that this endorsement represents a major breakthrough in the ongoing battle against economic sabotage. The statement read: "The endorsement represents a major breakthrough in the ongoing battle against economic sabotage." Achili urged all stakeholders to prioritise national interest, sustain collaborative efforts, and resist any distractions capable of undermining progress in securing the nation's vital oil assets.
This development underscores the importance of unified approaches in addressing security and economic challenges, particularly in the oil and gas sector, which remains a cornerstone of Nigeria's economy.
