Relative Reveals Details About ADC Politician Behind INEC Deregistration
Nafiu Bala, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who was involved in the party's deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has come under scrutiny as a relative shares fresh details about his background and recent lifestyle changes. The revelations come amid allegations that his faction of the ADC is being influenced by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), raising questions about political loyalty and party unity in Nigeria.
Humble Beginnings and Lifestyle Transformation
According to a relative of Nafiu Bala who requested anonymity, the politician hails from a very modest upbringing. The source, speaking to Daily Trust, described Bala as someone who was not a big-time politician in his early years but has undergone significant changes since the 2023 elections.
"I have known Nafiu Bala since his early childhood. He comes from a very humble background. He joined politics some years back, but he was not a bigtime politician. However, after the 2023 elections, he started acting big and even relocated his wife to Kaduna, while he is staying in Abuja," the relative stated.
The relative further noted that during a recent Sallah celebration, Bala arrived in Gombe with a large convoy of SUVs, accompanied by security escorts and other paraphernalia, showcasing a marked shift from his earlier modest lifestyle.
Allegations of APC Influence and Bala's Response
Following his increased political visibility after the 2023 elections, Bala has faced accusations that his faction of the ADC is being influenced by elements within the APC. Critics claim this is an attempt to derail the ADC's coalition project, adding to the internal crises the party has faced since July 2025.
In an interview with Daily Trust, Nafiu Bala strongly denied these allegations, asserting his loyalty to the ADC. "This is a baseless allegation. How can I be accused of that? You came to my party and accused me of being sponsored to destroy it. I am a card-carrying member of the ADC, and I have been in the party for about 10 years now. And now you just come in and want to push me out?" Bala stated emphatically.
Background on ADC Deregistration and Internal Crises
The controversy surrounding Nafiu Bala is part of broader tensions within the ADC, which have escalated into legal battles. Since July 2025, the party has faced internal crises, with Bala and a group led by David Mark both claiming leadership. These disputes culminated in INEC derecognising both factions, citing a March 12 court of appeal judgment.
Bala confirmed his attendance at the party's unveiling of interim leadership led by David Mark in July 2025, as highlighted in viral videos shared by TheCable. At the event, he was introduced as the ADC deputy national chairman for intergovernmental affairs. However, in a statement on April 7, Bala clarified that while he attended the meeting, it was not convened to unveil new party leaders.
The situation underscores the challenges of political loyalty in Nigeria's evolving landscape, with Bala's recent lifestyle changes and growing influence continuing to spark debate and scrutiny within political circles.
