Sanwo-Olu Urges Love and Unity in Easter Message, Commends Tinubu's Economic Reforms

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended warm Easter greetings to Nigerians, particularly Christian faithful and residents of Lagos, as they celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In an interview with journalists at Lagos House, Marina, the governor emphasized the importance of embracing love, unity, and the spirit of sacrifice during this festive period.

Reflecting on the Lessons of Easter

Sanwo-Olu commended Christians for their devotion during the Lenten season, highlighting their prayers, sacrifices, and compassion. He encouraged them to sustain the virtues of spirituality, charity, compassion, and peaceful coexistence that were imbibed throughout this period. The governor noted that the Lenten season, a 40-day fasting period, serves as a time for reflection and denial, and he expressed hope that the lessons learned would positively influence daily life.

"Easter is a season of blessings, love, and happiness," Sanwo-Olu stated. "Let us not forget all the preaching and teachings that have been taught during this period by ensuring that we are our brother's keeper, giving, loving our neighbors as ourselves, and keeping a community that is for everyone."

He further stressed the importance of interfaith harmony, saying, "We are all brothers and sisters. We could be of different faiths, but at the end of the day, we are all from one country and from one Almighty. As I've said before, let us be our brother's keeper. Let us watch and keep a safe and secure environment for ourselves."

Praising Tinubu's Economic Reforms

Turning to the state of the nation, Governor Sanwo-Olu commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to several reforms that have brought positive growth and development to Nigeria. Despite acknowledging the country's challenges, particularly in security, he praised Tinubu's leadership qualities and credibility.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted key economic indicators that show progress under Tinubu's administration:

  • Financial institutions meeting their share capital requirements.
  • Strength in the capital market and growth in the financial industry.
  • A reduction in food prices and overall economic growth.
  • A month-on-month decrease in inflation over the past 12 months.

"There are strong economic indices," Sanwo-Olu asserted. "Even with the war happening in Iran, where you have seen an increase in pump prices everywhere in the world, we have been able to manage ourselves. We have not seen any queues in any of our stations."

Addressing Security Concerns

The governor also addressed ongoing security issues in Nigeria, expressing sympathy for citizens who have lost loved ones in conflicts, particularly in Plateau and other parts of the country. He reassured the public of President Tinubu's commitment to tackling these challenges head-on.

"Mr. President has given a commitment that he will face it frontally and he will give it everything that he has," Sanwo-Olu said. "We can only wish him well."

In conclusion, Sanwo-Olu's Easter message blends a call for spiritual reflection and communal harmony with a positive assessment of national economic reforms, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and united in the face of challenges.
